A big step forward in helping people understand their genes
At Color our goal is to make clinical-grade genetic testing available for everyone. Today we’re excited to announce a big step toward that goal: starting June 15th, Color will begin accepting insurance for patients who meet their health plans’ coverage requirements. The Color Test will be covered by some of the largest insurance companies in the US, collectively representing more than 100 million people who’ll have access to the Color Test through their doctor’s offices.
This is an important milestone for the health insurance industry and for our clients and their families. The majority of healthcare dollars are still spent on treatment, and far too little on prevention. By helping people learn their inherited cancer risk, clinical-grade genetic tests like Color can lead to earlier diagnosis, increased survival rates, and reduced treatment costs. Now our insurance partnerships will make it even easier for healthcare providers to help their patients access knowledge that could help save their lives.
In the months to come, we’ll continue to add more payers and expand our in-network footprint. We also plan to work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to help reduce reimbursement rates for government payers, and empower more people to benefit from their own genetic information.
