What you can expect from COVID-19 testing with CityTestSF

Color is partnering with the City and County of San Francisco to expand access to COVID-19 testing.

CityTestSF has guidance on who can get tested. 

When you schedule an appointment, you can choose one of two sites. Please do not go to a testing site without an appointment. Either site can accommodate arrival in a car, or on foot, bike, or by other means.

 

The Embarcadero site is at Piers 30/32, Bryant and Embarcadero.

 

The SOMA site is at 7th and Brannan.

 

We do not use any of the information you give us for marketing purposes.

 

Information that’s required:

Phone number (mobile preferred)
We will text you when your results are ready.

Sex assigned at birth
Because we’re a CLIA-approved lab we’re required to ask for your sex assigned at birth. This is the sex as found on your birth certificate. It’s different than your gender identity, which is your innermost concept of self as male, female, a blend of both, neither, or something else, and which can change over time.

 

Information that’s optional:

Email address
If you provide an email address, we’ll also email you when your results are ready.

Home address
This is to help city and state officials understand the reach of the outbreak and how the virus is spreading. We provide this to the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange (CalREDIE).

Insurance information
You won’t be charged for the test.

Primary healthcare provider information
It is recommended you share your results with your healthcare provider to assist with your treatment and care services. We will verify your provider’s information and securely fax them a copy of your results when they’re ready.

Scheduling an appointment is easy. Learn more about the testing to decide whether you should schedule an appointment. 

You can arrive at the testing site by car or by foot, bicycle, or other means. When you’re scheduling your test we ask whether you’re arriving by vehicle or foot so that we can make sure we have the right resources for your appointment, to keep you and our staff safe. 

 

At the first station, a staff member will check you into your appointment.

  • Please keep your windows rolled up. 
  • Have your photo ID ready. 
  • Hold your photo ID against your window so that the staff member can see it and check you in.

 

If you don’t have a photo ID, the staff member will still check you in as long as you provide a phone number or email address to confirm your appointment.

 

At the second station, a trained clinician will collect your sample. 

They will start by confirming your name, date of birth, and contact information. We use this info to notify you when your results are ready. Then a swab will be inserted into your nose to collect your sample. After this, you’re done!

Getting tested will take about 20–30 minutes. This will depend on the traffic at the site.

 

Results typically take 1-3 days, though the actual time may vary. We will text you when your results are ready. If you provide an email when you make your appointment, we’ll also email you.
