According to the Business Group on Health’s annual survey, cancer ranks as the top condition driving healthcare costs for the fifth consecutive year. In 2026, 70% of employers named cancer as their top cost driver, compared with 58% the year prior.

Employers also face more cancer diagnoses among working-aged adults. NIH research found that incidence increased for 14 cancer types among people under 50 over the past decade.
