About Us

Our mission is to help everyone lead the healthiest lives that science and medicine allow

At Color, we believe everyone should be able to benefit from affordable, convenient, and high-quality healthcare. For the last decade, our team has been on a journey to remove barriers from healthcare delivery and bring integrated care to people where they are, at a population scale.

Since our beginning, we’ve been committed to action in the face of critical healthcare problems.

Our History

Color Health launches with the mindset that healthcare should be affordable, accessible, and actionable.

In 2015, Color entered the genetics and cancer risk space with a clinical-grade genetic test for BRCA1, BRCA2, and 17 other key genes. At the time, genetic tests for ovarian and breast cancer risk could cost several thousand dollars. Color was the first to deliver comprehensive genetic testing at a population-scale for less than a tenth of the cost—or even at no cost through employer-provided benefits—arming hundreds of thousands of individuals with the knowledge of their unique cancer and cardiometabolic risk. Importantly, our support continued beyond testing. Color’s genetic counseling team worked with participants to help them understand their results and plan for action.

Color begins a long history of partnering with leaders in research and precision medicine, starting with the National Institutes of Health.

In 2018, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded funding to Color, in partnership with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, to establish one of three genome centers for its historic All of Us Research Program. Color was recruited to analyze and report genomic data for a set of 59 genes that cause conditions such as breast and ovarian cancer, hypercholesterolemia, Lynch syndrome, and more. Color would also become the sole genetic counseling resource for participants.

Color continues its partnership with the NIH to this day, having gathered data from nearly 800,000 participants, many of whom represent populations who have been historically underrepresented in clinical research. Our work with the NIH was the first of many government partnerships to follow.

Color transforms access to critical COVID-19 testing, vaccination, and treatment services.

On March 16th, 2020, the first stay-at-home orders were issued in the Bay Area. Exactly two weeks later, Color had built a CLIA-certified COVID-19 testing lab and digital platform and announced its availability for public use. One week after that, Color published research-driven return-to-work protocols for employers.

In the months and years to come, Color partnered with employers, schools, and health departments across the country—Salesforce, the CDC, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Chicago Public Schools, to name a few—to deliver critical care where people worked, played, learned, and worshiped. When antiviral treatment became available, Color became one of the first providers of prescription delivery within 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset. To date, Color has tested, vaccinated, and treated millions. Learn about one of our community partnerships below.

Color partners with the American Cancer Society to operationalize a joint mission of ending cancer as we know it.

In June 2023, Color and the American Cancer Society (ACS) introduced a comprehensive cancer screening and prevention program for employers, combining the ACS’s expertise in clinical, evidence-based research on cancer prevention and Color’s leadership in population-scale healthcare delivery.

Rates of cancer screening, stage of detection, and treatment outcomes reflect some of the deepest disparities in American healthcare. With 159 million Americans receiving benefits through their employer, the ACS and Color recognize the critical role employers play in removing barriers of access to timely and quality preventive care. Hear from Hasbro employee and cancer survivor, Gina, on the importance of early detection and employer support.

Color and the American Cancer Society offer the first and only comprehensive cancer care solution for employers and unions.

Today, Color and the American Cancer Society have expanded our partnership to address the full continuum of cancer care, focusing on two key areas that have the biggest impact in the fight against cancer: 1) detecting cancer earlier, and 2) managing cancer more effectively. To meet these needs, Color built out an experienced clinical team through Color Medical to provide program participants with specialized, high-risk care, holistic support throughout treatment, and clinical and mental health support during survivorship.

After nearly a decade of working alongside healthcare and workplace innovators, breaking down barriers of access to essential health services, and providing exceptional patient experiences, we look forward to what the future holds.
